Packing for the Hospital and Maternity Hospital Gowns
Preparing for a baby can be a lot of work. Life completely changes with the addition of a new child. Whether it's your first, second or third, every experience is as unique as the child that you are carrying. For instance, you may have morning sickness with one child and not with the other. Perhaps you craved pickles with the first and peanut butter with second. No one can predict what each pregnancy will be like. However, the preparation for the baby to come home is one ritual that does not change very much. Sometime in your third trimester, you should pack a bag for yourself, pack a bag for the baby and bring any necessary baby supplies.
When packing a bag for yourself, you want to make sure to bring the necessities. When deciding on what clothing to take, remember to pack something comfortable. Remember, before and after delivery you will mostly be wearing maternity hospital gowns. Because the maternity hospital gown will be your wardrobe while at the hospital, just plan to pack underwear and clothes to wear home when you are discharged. Also, pack any necessary grooming supplies. For instance, you'll need a toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, toiletries, and whatever you might use in your day-to-day grooming.
Next, you should pack a bag for the baby. Unlike the mother, who will be able to wear maternity hospital gowns during her stay, the baby will have only the clothes that you bring them. Therefore, be sure to pack enough clothes to last. Pack a combination of booties, mittens, onesies and baby blankets. Also, be sure to bring more diapers than you think you will need because it's better to have more diapers than not enough.
Lastly, pack all of the baby supplies you'll need for the trip home. These items can include a wide range of things, but make sure that you have enough blankets to keep the baby warm in the car. You will need a car seat to bring the baby home in. Never put the baby in any vehicle without a car seat. This is dangerous, reckless behavior and could have devastating results. If you plan to bottle feed, bring any formula and bottles. Bring baby wipes, baby powder and diaper rash cream. This is not an all inclusive list, but it should get you well on your way to packing for the hospital.
